There is a Lichfield group of the Catenian Association – a catholic men’s group. There are over 10,000 members in Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, South Africa, India, Zambia and Zimbabwe and we have around 50 members in the Lichfield group. Our overall aim is to have fun and friendship at our meetings and social events.
We organise a full calendar of social events that are intended to provide something for everyone. These include family barbecues in the summer, walks, theatre outings, visits to JCB or Morgan factory for example, ghost tours of Lichfield, a Burns Night or St Patrick’s Night meal, Christmas party, etc. In line with our Catholic ethos we organise a number of Masses each year; these are normally the Lichfield President’s Mass, a Mass for our deceased members, and a Mass for Vocations. We are not a charitable or fund-raising organisation but we do support and organise a number of fund raising and charitable activities throughout the year. One charity of which the whole Association is justifiably proud is its own Bursary Fund. This raises funds to support young Catholics who want to work on projects around the world to assist communities less fortunate than ourselves. In 2013-2014 grants were made to over 900 applicants. |
