CATECHISTS

Training undertaken
  • A course on the Catechism of the Catholic Church at Maryvale Institute of Further & Higher Education. (see in Links/Religious/Catholic Diocese of Birmingham/Education)

(several from our parish also studied this Catechism course)

  • Igna Evans, Peter & Daphne Keane continued with the Parish Catechists foundation course leading to a Catechists Certificate in 1995.
  • We followed this with a more academic training including practical teaching leading to a Diploma in Parish Catechesis which we received from the Bishop in 1997 at Maryvale Institute of Further & Higher Education.

What we do in our parish:

Training is given to children not attending a Catholic school. They are guided through First Holy Communion & Confirmation.

This is undertaken before the Saturday morning 10.30 Mass or Tuesday evenings before 7.30 Mass.

Occasionally, we guide adults through a course leading to reception into the Church, with the approval of our parish priest.

Children’s Liturgy: a mirror image of the mass, takes place at 6pm Mass and 11 am Mass.

There is now also Children's Liturgy at the 8.30 mass

PRIESTS TRAINING FUND
see also Link to Catholic Diocese of Birmingham/Vocations
and
(www.vocations.org.uk).

This exists to provide money needed for training future secular priests of the Diocese. It has two main sources of income:

  • The church collection taken 4th Sunday of Easter.
  • The envelope or direct debit subscription paid by the people of the Diocese, through the Parish Secretary, Daphne Keane.

The annual collection from subscribers is posted on the notice board in both churches.

Mass is celebrated monthly at Oscott College for all benefactors.

An AGM Mass is usually celebrated at Oscott each September.
